Gardens Open by Arrangement
As listed above, Mr and Mrs D S Roulston´s gardens at Wester Dalqueich, half a mile from Carnbo, can be visited by arrangement (phone 01577 840229). The gardens extend to three and a half acres by the Ochil Hills, and there is a wide range of herbaceous plants, rock plants, shrubs and trees to see. 40% of admission charge goes to the Kinross-shire Volunteer Group.
Special Open Days
There are plenty of gardens open in the SGS in July, but they are far-flung from Kinross. The nearest are:
Willowhill and Tayfield gardens, at Forgan, Newport on Tay, DD6 8HA. They are open on Sunday 6 July, 2pm - 5.30pm. Willowhill is an evolving 3-acre garden started in 2000.There are mixed borders of bulbs, shrubs, alpines and herbaceous perennials, a vegetable plot, wildlife pond and trees. Tayfield has a wide variety of trees and shrubs established over the past 200 years in the grounds of Tayfield House. Route: one and a half miles south of Tay Road Bridge. Take the B995 to Newport off the Forgan roundabout. Willowhill is the first house on the LHS next to the Forgan Arts Centre. Admission: £4.
The gardens at the Rufflets Country House Hotel and at 32 Lade Braes, both in St Andrews, are open on Sunday 27 July from 2pm to 5.30pm. Rufflets has ten acres of award-winning gardens, first laid out when the house was built in 1924. The garden at Lade Braes has an interesting variety of trees and shrubs interspersed with garden rooms - a white garden and shell house. Route: follow yellow signs from Hepburn Gardens and Argyll Street car park. Tickets available at both gardens. Admission £4 (20% to Families First and 20% to St Andrews Perservation Trust). Disabled access, dogs on lead welcome at hotel only, refreshments available.
